52. Manta in the sun
Capturing amazing sunbursts on digital camera was the actual topic two decades ago. Since then the sensors have improved to the point where well planned attempt brings consumable results if the conditions play along. On the other hand, even the most beautiful sunburst on its own no longer generates wow effect. Camera’s technology constantly advances, allowing us to discover and implement new tools, but they rarely deliver game-changing benefits in underwater photography. That being said, instead of trying to discover unknown “recipes,” combining existing tools into more complex story lines can contribute to better results. Let’s be honest, there is only one best template for a manta ray image! A shot in crystal clear water, framing the animal from underneath, showing its size, and with the sun-rays flowing around it. It’s hard to beat this classic manta ray image recipe with any other composition. There are a thousand images to follow the recipe, but unlocking their full potential requires not only mastering photography skills, but also understanding animal’s behavior.
